As we age we can begin to show signs of loose skin on the face and on the neck. Collagen is replenished every minute of the day in our body but from our mid-twenties the collagen struggles to produce enough elastin to keep the skin tight, strong and supple. Wrinkles and loose skin appear. Pigmentation and age spots may also develop but generally not till a little later in life. Skin Revision has a variety of skin treatments for skin that has aged. They may include skin peels/ chemical peels, DMK skin revision, DMK enzyme therapy, microneedling, Profhilo, Seventy Hyal (skin boosters) hydro facials / hydra facials.

Which areas of the body are successfully treated for ageing?

The greatest signs of ageing skin are of course the face and hands. These are the two areas of the body that have the most exposure to the sun. Both the face and hands tend to initially show fine lines which develop into wrinkles and folds as we age. As the skin gets older with more sun exposure, the skin starts to get saggy or sagging and loose. The lack of elastin is increasing and the facial and hand muscles weaken. Pigmentation and sun damage spots may well follow later on which are visible through darker patches.

There is a small amount of downtime following your treatment for the scars.  Whether you have DMK or micro- needling/skin needling, your face will be red. This redness will subside during the day. LED does help calm the skin down.

Do I have to have a skin consultation ?

If you have concerns about your skin and wish that the skin to look more youthful on the face, neck, and hands once again, then do contact us. You will be asked to come for a skin consultation and we will use the time to understand your wishes, answer your questions and devise a treatment plan that will get you the results you were hoping for.

Is the loose skin on the neck a sign of ageing skin?

Yes. Unfortunately, ladies seem to suffer from loose sagging skin on the neck more than men, as the skin starts to age. Sun exposure primarily and lack of collagen and elastin are mainly to blame for this. Thankfully the clinic does have the necessary non-surgical treatments to tighten the loose skin on the neck. The end results are extremely good and take years off the look of the skin.

Where is the best place to treat ageing skin?

Why has my skin aged so much?

Your skin will age, that is a given. There are various factors which can contribute to skin ageing and these are here:

  • Ageing – As we age our skin changes. These things decrease over time – the production of collagen and elastin, the proteins responsible for the skin’s elasticity and firmness. This results in the skin’s lack of ability to bounce back and therefore wrinkles are formed.
  • Sun exposure – Prolonged sun exposure to the UV rays contributes to fine lines and wrinkles on any part of the body. UV radiation can break down the collagen and elastin fibres in the skin. This leads to signs of ageing skin.
  • Smoking – Smoking accelerates the skin’s ageing process as it depletes the oxygen and nutrients which damage collagen and elastin, causing dull, grey skin and fine lines, particularly around the mouth.
  • Facial expressions – Repeated facial expressions such as squinting, frowning and smiling can form dynamic wrinkles and show signs of ageing quicker. These can become permanent around the eyes, forehead and mouth, where the skin is thinner.
  • Genetics – Some people’s genetics will unfortunately mean that their skin shows signs of ageing, quicker than others.
  • Lifestyle choices – Poor diet, such as a diet lacking in the best nutrients, alcohol consumption, lack of sleep and contribute to ageing skin.
  • Dehydration – Skin that is dehydrated is more prone to fine lines and wrinkles. Adequate hydration is essential to help keep the skin plumper, smoother and the skin looking younger for longer.
  • Environment – Pollution and exposure to the harsh environment conditions can damage the skin and accelerate the skin’s ageing process.
  • Hormonal changes – Hormonal changes that occur with menopause or as a result of certain medical conditions, can affect the skin’s structure and bring wrinkles to the fore.
  • SkinCare – Poor skin care regime will not necessarily increase skin ageing but will not help to keep them at bay.
