What are the benefits of  Vitamin B-12?

Vitamin B-12 plays a key role in the normal functioning of the brain and your body’s overall nervous system. It also aides in the formation of necessary red blood cells. Having a B-12 deficiency is a serious condition that can cause many health problems if left untreated.

Vitamin B-12 deficiency can be a serious matter. Symptoms may include: Weakness; difficulty concentrating; mood swings; problems with coordination; numbness or tingling in the hands and feet; brittle nails; pale skin, irregular heartbeat; shortness of breath; poor vision.

Vitamin B12 is a nutrient that helps keep the body’s nerve and blood cells healthy and helps make DNA.

How does a Vitamin B-12 injection help any deficiency?

Vitamin B12 rapidly absorbs from food. Hydrochloric acid in the stomach separates vitamin B-12 from the protein to which vitamin B12 is attached to the food.  Vitamin B-12 then combines with a protein made by the stomach called the intrinsic factor and is absorbed by the whole body. Some people are not able to absorb the B12 which is why a B12 injection can be so important.

How many treatments of Vitamin B-12 will be needed?

If you are particularly deficient in Vitamin B12, then we would advise one treatment per week for the first month. It is then a case of seeing how much of an improvement you feel you have made. It may then be ideal to have a further injection of B12 once a month in order to maintain energy and eleviate any lethargy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Vitamin B-12 important?

Vitamin B 12 plays a key role in restoring optimal health. B 12 will help restore your brain functionality and your nervous system.
Since your body doesn’t make vitamin B12, you have to get it from animal-based foods or from supplements regularly. While B12 is stored in the liver for up to five years, you can eventually become deficient if your diet doesn’t help maintain the levels.

Why should I have a B-12 injection?

Having B12 via an injection into the arm means that the B12 is absorbed quickly into the bloodstream. This will mean that any deficiencies in your body will be eliminated quicker.

Does the injection hurt?

The injection is almost painless. The vitamin B-12 is injected into the arm but only just a few ml. It only goes just below the surface. You recover immediately.

Will I notice a difference immediately?

One treatment is not enough, especially if you know you are lacking in B-12. We would recommend 4 injections in the first month (one per week). We would then recommend regular visits if you know you are not in-taking the necessary B-12 in your lifestyle. You should begin to notice the difference within the first month. Your energy should come back and many of the symptoms you were experiencing will likely gradually return with maintenance.

Should I see a doctor about Vitamin B-12?

If you are feeling low, depressed, lack energy or any other of the symptoms mentioned, you should always seek a doctor’s advice. If they diagnose that you are lacking in B-12, they will often refer you to a clinic like the Skin Revision Clinic to have a course of B-12 injections.
